Pet Stain and Odor

At Atlantis Carpet Cleaning and Restoration we understand the importance of getting the job done right the first time! Removing pet stains and odors is really like trying to get weeds out of your garden. If you cut them off at the surface, the weeds simply grow back and keep resurfacing until you get to the root of the problem. Pet stains can sometimes (but not all the time) act in the same fashion.

Below your carpet you have what is essentially a sponge and even further down you will find either concrete or wood. Concrete and wood are both porous absorbing both contaminants and odors alike and your carpet pad, needless to say, locks in urine. The first step is properly identifying the problem using special UV lights that can see what the naked eye cannot. The next step is measuring the amount of contamination and finally determining which method is most appropriate.

In many cases simply cleaning the surface is enough but when the damage is deeper or the pet has chosen a favorite spot, deeper treatment is required. The preferred method of dealing with this problem is utilizing a tool we call “the claw”. We use larger versions of “the claw” for insurance approved “in place drying” of heavily water damaged areas. First we saturate the contaminated area with a pH balanced disinfectant specifically designed for pet urine then by using a miniature version of the claw the solution is sucked back into our machine along with the contamination.

The next method would be a a thorough wash of both sides of the carpet with anti-contamination treatments and replacement of the contaminated pad. We don’t like the sound of this any more than you do so of course we will try to do the most cost efficient method possible to fully eliminate odors and reappearing spots. Our primary concern of course is getting the job done correctly the first time so our certified technicians will advise you of all options and possibilities and then you decide what method you are most comfortable with.

Note: While most carpet cleaning companies hire technicians at an hourly rate and train them “in-house”, most are not trained in carpet repair and thus cannot properly perform a service like this. Our technicians are certified in all forms of carpet repair including re-stretching and re-seaming.
